InterContinental Music Awards Winner Yeisy Rojas Nominated for Latin Grammy in Best Tropical Latin Album!
Celebrating Yeisy Rojas: From InterContinental Music Awards Winner to Latin Grammy Nominee
It’s with immense pride that we share some exciting news! Yeisy Rojas, who won the Best of America, Latin Folk category at the InterContinental Music Awards last year (ICMA 2023), has just been nominated for a Latin Grammy Award! Her incredible album A Mis Ancestros is now in the running for Best Tropical Latin Album at the 2024 Latin Grammy Awards, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for her.
A Story of Passion and Perseverance
Yeisy’s journey began long before this moment, and it’s a story of passion, dedication, and love for music. Born in Cuba, Yeisy was just 7 years old when she was accepted into one of the country’s top music schools, the National Art School of Cuba. For 11 years, she studied classical music, mastering her craft in ways that would eventually open the doors to new opportunities. Her career began at the Opera House in Havana, where she worked as a violinist and a pianist for the National Ballet of Cuba.
But Yeisy’s heart was drawn to something more. She began exploring Cuban music and Latin jazz, blending her classical roots with the vibrant sounds of her culture. This artistic journey took her all the way to Norway, where she studied jazz violin at the Conservatory of Kristiansand. During her time there, she formed her own Latin jazz quartet, and Yeisy has been composing, singing, and performing ever since.
Taking the World by Storm
Yeisy’s music has brought her to some of the most iconic stages in the world. From the Bergen International Music Festival in Norway to the Kongsberg Jazz Festival and even performing on NRK, Norway’s National Radio, Yeisy’s talent has earned her a global following. Her single “Mama Ines” was featured on Billboard’s “On The Radar” list in June 2023, highlighting her as one of the top 9 artists to watch. This kind of recognition is no accident—it’s the result of years of hard work, a deep connection to her roots, and an unwavering commitment to sharing her music with the world.
