Sonny King (aka Tim Word) is an Emmy®-award-winning TV composer, music producer, songwriter, and professional audio engineer with over fifteen years of experience in the music industry.
Early in his career, he was a signed recording artist with NVS Music Group and Universal Music Group, touring and performing across the country. He has worked with major recording artists, songwriters, and super-producers such as Young Scooter, Maino, Grammy-winning producer Fanatic (Beyoncé, Diddy), Grammy-winning writer Rasheem “Kilo” Pugh (Lauryn Hill), and many others.
While working in some of the top recording studios in Atlanta and North Carolina, Sonny discovered his passion for music production and founded the company Music by King Inc. As he perfected his mixing and mastering skills, he became a sought-after engineer and producer on the East Coast.
Sonny is also an accomplished TV and film composer, having worked on popular TV productions such as Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the NBA, Lizzo’s Amazon TV series Watch Out for the Big Grrls, and the Netflix original series Perfect Match, among many others. His work has been featured on major networks like Hulu, MTV, HBO Max, and more.
Sonny has traveled internationally, co-producing, recording, and performing with the famous Italian funk band Dirotta Su Cuba and appeared on the finale of Italy’s reality TV show All Together Now in Rome.
Tim is a five-time Global Music Award winner, a four-time InterContinental Music Award winner, a USA Songwriting Competition winner, a three-time Hollywood Music in Media Awards nominee, and a voting member of the Recording Academy’s Grammys.
He holds multiple committee seats on the Producer & Engineers Wing, Songwriters and Composers Wing, and is an advocate for musicians’ rights while mentoring the next generation of musicians.
Sonny also co-wrote the recently published book How to Write Better Songs: Songwriting Secrets from Award-Winning Songwriters, alongside several other award-winning songwriters, including Scott Ashley.
