Star Spot with Luis Alberto Naranjo – Composer and Soundtrack Creator Blending Electronic and Orchestral Music

Exclusive Interview with Luis Alberto Naranjo: A Journey of Music, Passion, and Awards

Your music journey started at a very young age, but what was the pivotal moment when you decided to pursue music professionally?

“I think it’s the dream of any child to dedicate themselves to music. I remember humming melodies at just six or seven, gazing out the window. Music has always been with me, and I’ve fought hard to dedicate myself to it professionally. It’s taken effort, time, and opening the right doors,” says Luis Alberto Naranjo.

How did your early influences, like Jean Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream, shape your sound and music style?

Luis Alberto Naranjo shares, “Jean Michel’s concerts, with incredible music, lasers, and fireworks, had a profound influence on me. Tangerine Dream’s repeated sequences and variables also shaped my early albums. My album Total Eclipse reflects these sounds while maintaining my personal touch.”

Can you tell us about the creation process behind your album Blue Life and how it set the tone for your music career?

“This was my first demo, or ‘maqueta’ in Spanish. It combined influences from Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, and Pink Floyd. It was an experiment with electronic music fused with symphonic rock, laying the foundation for my future style,” explains Luis Alberto Naranjo.

What led to your transition from producing music for yourself to producing for other artists in your recording studio?

“I’ve always loved studio production—working with equalizers, compressors, and microphones,” says Luis Alberto Naranjo. “After studying sound engineering, I set up a studio in my town to help local artists record professionally. It’s been a rewarding journey.”

Your soundtrack work seems to be a significant part of your journey. How did you get started in creating soundtracks, and what keeps you motivated in this field?

“I’ve always been drawn to film music, sometimes more than the movie itself!” shares Luis Alberto Naranjo. “I transitioned to soundtracks during Spain’s 2009 economic crisis, shifting my studio’s focus. Today, I’m deeply in love with this creative field and its visual storytelling.”

You’ve been involved in both electronic and orchestral music. How do you balance these two distinct genres in your compositions?

Luis Alberto Naranjo reflects, “While electronic music is my passion, orchestral music has grown on me. I often mix the two, blending traditional instruments with electronic sounds for a unique cinematic feel.”

Your album Reencuentro marked your return to the stage after 17 years. How did it feel to reconnect with your live audience?

“Returning to live performances was essential,” says Luis Alberto Naranjo. “A musician thrives on audience connection. Feeling their reactions and applause was incredibly fulfilling and reminded me why I love this career.”

Can you tell us about the collaboration on The Ancient Garden and how the involvement of different artists shaped the final product?

“Inspired by El Bosco’s triptych The Garden of Earthly Delights, the album combines electronic and orchestral music. Collaborators like Cristina Eyre (vocals), Rosa MarĂa GarcĂa Lorca (soprano), actor Juan Meseguer (voiceovers), and writer Antonio Pardo Larrosa enriched the project. It’s a fusion of music, literature, and art,” explains Luis Alberto Naranjo.

You’ve received numerous awards and nominations in recent years. What does recognition like the Global Music Awards and Hollywood Music in Media Awards mean to you?

Luis Alberto Naranjo shares, “These awards are a huge honor. They validate years of hard work and connect me with global music icons. Each recognition inspires me to push further.”

How did you first hear about the InterContinental Music Awards, and what was your experience like participating in the ICMA?

“I’ve known about ICMA for years but only succeeded recently,” says Luis Alberto Naranjo. “Winning and being a finalist with two compositions was a dream come true. The online ceremony was magical and accessible to a global audience.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians who are just starting out and want to make a career in music?

Luis Alberto Naranjo advises, “Pursuing music is challenging but rewarding. Perseverance is key—never give up. Constant effort pays off, and awards like ICMA provide invaluable motivation. Believe in your dream and work tirelessly.
